Today’s guest is from the continent (yes that continent that many think is a country) Africa. She experienced a stillbirth at 32 weeks in her home country of Zimbabwe. In this episode Chiedza Makwara shares how pregnancy loss is still a taboo concept in Zimbabwe, how she experienced depression and PTSD after her loss, and how she is using her blog and platform to bring awareness to stillbirth.
Today’s episode is a solo episode as I am sharing my own personal abortion story. I have never told this story on this podcast, and wanted to share my truth to release the hurt, embarrassment, and shame I have worked through with therapy and carried around with me so many years. August 19, 2004 is a day I will never forget. It is also a day I almost lost my life ten years later giving birth to my rainbow baby boy. This episode is for you to listen to learn more about the healing that takes place post abortion and loss.
Happy 34th Birthday to me!
Today is my 34th birthday yall! I’m so excited to celebrate another year around the sun. There is no place I’d rather be than in the guest chair myself talking about Sisters in Loss and the amazing Jesus year I just experienced. I can not put into words what God has done in my life, I can truly say that I’m blessed. I do have a testimony. I’ll save that announcement for another day, but I do have a request of you.
But First my birthday wish is for you to rate and review the podcast. Even if you have reviewed before your feedback means the world to me. It helps me craft a better podcast, produce more dynamic shows, and ensure we are meeting and exceeding your needs as a Sister in Loss. My prayer is that I receive 34 new reviews in honor of my 34th birthday. Thank you so much in advance for reviewing the podcast and for listening, tuning in, joining in the discussion in our private facebook community and so much more.
I’m so excited to share with my podcast sisters all that has been happening behind the scenes with Sisters in Loss.
100 Episodes we are here! I’m so thrilled that you are apart of the Sisters in Loss family. My goal when starting this podcast was to share our stories, stories of phenomenal, resilient, amazing black women to remove the shame, stigma, and silence around pregnancy and infant loss and infertility. In this episode I share my travels over the last month. My first stop was in Cancun, Mexico at the My Taught You Retreat hosted by Myleik Teele of CurlBOX. I share my experience and nuggets that were dropped from being in the room. I then spoke on a panel at The MOMference in Washington, DC where I spoke on infant loss and infertility. This is the conference for black moms, moms to be, and moms in waiting. I also share what’s next for the Sisters in Loss community and why you need to join us at SistersinLoss.com
Pregnancy loss and infertility can be so hard on a marriage. It can either tear the couple apart or bring them closer together. In fact it is said that almost 80% of couples who experience a miscarriage or infertility end up in divorce. In this month of love we will be featuring 4 couples showing by prayer, faith in God, and a strong commitment to stay together their marriages endured the hard times of pregnancy loss and infertility. In today’s episode I bring my husband Brandon O. McAfee on to talk about our challenges growing our family, raising a special needs child, and how we have weather the storm 7 years married and after our first loss. We discuss these last 3 weeks and how we spent 10 days in the hospital with our son fighting off a virus. How our village came to surround us with love, how we manage burn out, and ensure we are pouring into ourselves as well as into each other.

So what does it mean to be relentless with our faith in Christ? Are we even sure we want to go down that road? Being relentless can sound noble and right, but it is also strangely elusive these days, especially regarding our faith.
