143 – Ovarian Cysts and Coping After Stillbirth with Lakisha Watson

Erica Michelle

There is always a rainbow after the storm of losses. Today’s guest knows what it feels to be granted her rainbow baby girl on the day of love Valentine’s Day 2019. Before that Lakisha Watson was told she would never conceive due to ovarian cysts and her fallopian tubes being partially closed. One month after getting married, she was able to defeat the odds and become pregnant with a baby boy. Lakisha’s son’s heart stopped beating at 31 weeks and he was born still. In today’s episode Lakisha takes us back to those moments of how she coped with the loss of her son, how 4 months later she became pregnant with her rainbow baby girl, and what pregnancy after loss does to you emotionally. This episode is for you to listen to if you have ever had a stillbirth, ovarian cysts, or want to understand what pregnancy after loss looks like.

Lakisha Watson’s Bio
My name is Lakisha, I am from Tulsa, OK I am a wife and mother to an angel son and rainbow daughter. I am a newly stay at home mom. My husband and I have a photography business here in Tulsa. I have a degree in psychology and before staying home, I was a social worker.

Tell me about your journey to motherhood? What obstacles have you overcome?

In 2015 I had a laparoscopic procedure done and the results were that I would never be able to conceive due to cysts on my ovaries and scar tissue. I had a second procedure later that year where they injected dye into my tubes to see if they were open. The dye slightly came through which meant they weren’t completely closed, yet it would still be difficult to conceive. In 2017 one month after getting married, we found out we were pregnant. Pregnancy was normal and then our son’s heart stopped beating at 31 wks. He was stillborn. Doctors still have no explanation except it may have been a cord accident but they’re not for sure. 4 months after that we became pregnant with our rainbow baby. After a hard, emotional pregnancy, our daughter was born healthy on Valentine’s Day 2019.
