In today’s episode we have Qiana Wright who shares her miscarriage at 8 weeks, premature birth at 28 weeks, and infant loss story at 9 months due to daycare abuse. We also talk about her inspiration for starting her foundation Savannah Smiles, and trying again for a family after having her tubes tied. Qiana shares in this episode how her first pregnancy ended in a premature birth of son Julius. He spent a month in the NICU and came home on a breathing monitor. Later she conceived and ended up miscarrying at 8 weeks. Qiana and her husband were determined to try again, and became pregnant with daughter Savannah. After not having a known cause for her previous preterm birth and miscarriage, a cerclage was placed at 21 weeks due to her cervix shortening. Qiana gave birth to her beautiful healthy baby girl Savannah on March 1, 2015. She knew her family was complete and opted to get her tubes tied in April 2015. On December 4, 2015, Savannah died at 9 months due to child abuse while at daycare. This episode is for you to listen to if you have had a miscarriage, premature birth, infertility, and to understand how a couple and family grieves while going through the legal process of child abuse at daycare.
Qiana Wright’s Bio
I am Qiana Wright. I am a full time School Counselor, and prior to becoming a School Counselor 4 years ago, I was an Elementary School Teacher for 14 years. I am a wife and mother of 4 (one son, two bonus daughters, and one angel baby), and reside in Maryland. I graduated from Hampton University in 2000 with a Bachelors in Psychology, then obtained my Masters in Counseling from Trinity University in Washington, DC, in 2013. Working closely with young children is my passion and I find enjoyment in helping children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I also enjoy working with families of young children. Being a wife and mother are my most precious gifts from God, and I cherish my role as both. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching great love stories, having a good laugh and cooking. I find cooking to be therapeutic.
My 1st pregnancy was in 2003. I unexpectedly gave birth to my son, Julius at 28 weeks, after my water fully broke while at work at 27 weeks. The cause of my premature labor was unknown, and I was in the hospital for exactly a week before going into labor. My son stayed in the NICU for almost a month before coming home on a breathing monitor. He was on the breathing monitor for 2 months. My 2nd pregnancy was in 2013, which ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks, and received a DNC at 10 weeks. The cause of my miscarriage was unknown, and the pain from losing my baby hurt so bad. The loss was hurtful to my husband and children because we all we excited to welcome a new baby to our crew. My husband and I were now on a mission to conceive again. I began using an ovulation kit to track my ovulation, and my 3rd pregnancy was in 2014. This time, due to my premature delivery of Julius and my miscarriage, I received an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks we doctors noticed my cervix shorting. I was then placed on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy. On Sunday, March 1, 2015, I gave birth to my daughter, Savannah Kai Wright. She was born healthy and full of joy. Our family was complete, or so we thought, and I got my tubes tied in April 2015. On December 4, 2015, Savannah died at 9 months due to child abuse while at daycare. Dealing with Savannah’s death has been a difficulty journey for us. Once again, we loss a baby that we all wanted so bad. The yearning to have a baby never left, and I regret ever tying my tubes because now I am faced with fertility issues due caused by a tubal ligation reversal. Its been an uphill battle trying to process all of this while still working with the judicial system to get justice for Savannah’s death. I remain prayerful that God will continue to cover my family and give me my hearts desire.
