I am Tomeka Isaac a Compliance Assurance Officer for Citibank, NA born and raised in North Carolina. My husband and I currently reside in Fort Mill SC. I am silly, witty and I love people. I was married at 38 and was expecting my first child at 41. I am Jace’s mom.
Tell me about your journey to motherhood? What obstacles have you overcome?
On May 14, 2018, my husband and I were faced with the news no parent ever wants to hear. Our son, Jace Alexander, had no fetal heartbeat. He was due in exactly one month. As we processed this news, we were dealt with another blow, I was very sick. I was diagnosed with H.E.L.L.P Syndrome (Hemolysis Elevated Liver Enzymes Low Platelet) which is pretty much pre-eclampsia on steroids and I was dying. I had a hematoma on my liver the size of a soft ball and almost a liter of blood in my abdomen. It would take several surgeries, 7 to be exact, an amazing surgical team and many prayers for me to leave the hospital 45 days later. What we uncovered after was that our son’s death and my sickness could have been prevented. Not by some expensive medical procedure but by a urine test. Yep, peeing in a cup. My OB had not taken a urine sample since my third appointment which was 11/30/17.
